The Alleni Rainbowfish (Chilatherina alleni) from the Wapoga River locality is one of the most striking Chilatherina available in the hobby. Mature males develop deep red flanks, an electric blue throat, and elongated finnage that fan out during display. Females are subtler in color but still show beautiful pastel sheens.

Behavior

Wapoga Allenis are peaceful schoolers and active mid-water swimmers. A group of 6 or more, with multiple males, brings out the constant competitive display behavior this species is known for.

Tank Setup

A 55 gallon long tank is the practical minimum. They appreciate open horizontal swimming space, a planted background, and moderate flow. Slightly alkaline, well-oxygenated water suits them best.

Diet

Omnivorous. A mix of quality flake, micro pellets, frozen and live foods (daphnia, brine shrimp, bloodworms) supports the deep reds and blues these fish are known for.

Pests & Algae

I do have snails in my tank.I do my best to pick off what I see. Duckweed have invaded a few tanks but most plants will be free of duckweed. Older leaves may have a bit of algae but I typically clean up all plants before shipping.
