Java Fern and Bolbitis are some of the easiest plants to keep alive in a planted tank. Both are rhizome plants, so tie or glue them to wood or rock instead of burying them, because a buried rhizome rots. They grow slowly, do well in low to medium light, and don’t need CO2. Java Fern comes in several leaf shapes, including Trident, Needle Leaf and Narrow. Bolbitis has long, dark, textured leaves and takes a little longer to settle in. Both are good picks for shrimp and fish tanks. Everything is grown fully submerged, or labeled emersed.
