Cryptocoryne Parva
Cryptocoryne Parva holds the title of the smallest Cryptocoryne species, making it a prized gem for nano tank aquascaping and foreground carpeting. Native to Sri Lanka, this tiny crypt produces narrow, bright green leaves that grow only 1-3 inches tall, creating a lush, natural lawn effect over time. Unlike many stem plant carpets that require high-tech setups, C. parva achieves a similar look with minimal maintenance - just patience.
Care Requirements Easy but slow - the main challenge with Cryptocoryne Parva is waiting for it to spread. Tolerates low to moderate lighting and doesn't require CO2, though both improve growth speed. As a heavy root feeder, it performs best in nutrient-rich substrate or with root tabs placed nearby. Like all crypts, it strongly prefers stability once planted - avoid disturbing roots or moving it.
Placement Foreground and nano tank specialist. Plant individual stems 1-2 inches apart and allow time to fill in. The slow, dense spread creates a natural carpet that looks particularly stunning around rocks and driftwood bases. Ideal for shrimp tanks, nano setups, and low-tech planted aquariums.
Parameters Temperature: 72-82°F | pH: 6.0-7.5 | Lighting: Low-Moderate | CO2: Not Required | Growth: Very Slow | Difficulty: Beginner
Crypt melt is completely normal after transplanting - C. parva is especially prone to it. Don't pull it out! As long as the roots and crown are intact, new leaves will emerge. Keep conditions stable and give it 2-4 weeks.
