Crystal Black Shrimp reach breeding maturity at 4-6 months, with females carrying eggs for around 30 days before releasing fully formed shrimplets. Stable water conditions and ample hiding spots promote successful breeding, while baby shrimp thrive on biofilm and powdered shrimp food.

Crystal Black Shrimp (CBS) and Crystal Red Shrimp (CRS) are color variants of the Caridina cantonensis species, with CBS displaying black and white patterns and CRS featuring red and white due to a recessive gene. Both require similar care, thriving in soft, acidic water. They follow a grading system based on the intensity of white coloration, with higher grades being more valuable. While they can be kept together, breeding them will mostly result in CBS offspring due to the dominant black gene.
