Pearl Weed
Pearl Weed (Hemianthus micranthemoides) is a fast-growing, bright green stem plant prized for the tiny bubbles of oxygen, or pearls, that cling to its fine leaves in good light. It is one of the most versatile plants in the hobby: trimmed low it forms a soft carpet in the foreground, left a little taller it fills the midground, and untrimmed it makes a bushy background accent. Pearl Weed is easy to grow, thriving in low to high light and doing fine without CO2, though brighter light and added CO2 produce a denser, more compact plant that pearls even more. Plant the stems in the substrate or let them float, and trim often to keep it full and bushy. A great, forgiving choice for beginners and aquascapers who want a lush green plant that shows off its pearling.
