Lagenandra Meeboldii Red

Lagenandra Meeboldii Red (Lagenandra meeboldii 'Red') is a hardy, beginner friendly rosette plant prized for broad leaves that shift through olive green, bronze, and deep reddish purple. A relative of Cryptocoryne from the shaded riverbanks of southwest India, it grows from a creeping rhizome and thrives in low to moderate light with no CO2 required, though extra light plus steady iron and potassium bring out its boldest red tones. Growth is slow and tidy, topping out around 4 to 12 inches, which makes it a standout midground or foreground centerpiece for nano tanks, aquascapes, and shrimp tanks. Plant the roots in your substrate but keep the crown and rhizome at or just above the surface so it never rots, and pair it with our Lagenandra Keralensis for a bold Lagenandra display few crypt-style plants can match.
What I like about this plant: it gives you crypt-level toughness with color you usually have to fight a demanding stem plant for. It shrugs off low-tech tanks, holds its shape without constant trimming, and looks like a much fussier plant than it actually is. Ours color up best under moderate light with steady iron, and it is noticeably less melt-prone than most true crypts, so it settles in and just gets better.
