Blue Leg Poso Shrimp
Last import date: 10/21/26
The Blue Leg Poso Shrimp (Caridina sp. 'Blue Leg Poso') is a Sulawesi shrimp from Lake Poso in Indonesia, named for the blue coloring on its legs and often showing a pair of blue spots near the tail. It is generally considered a little more forgiving than other Sulawesi species, which makes it a sensible first step into the Sulawesi side of the hobby, though it still needs Sulawesi-specific water. Like all Sulawesi species, it comes from alkaline, mineral-rich lake water that differs from common Caridina and Neocaridina.
Care Requirements: Specialty species for keepers with Sulawesi-specific setups. Requires warm, hard, alkaline water with stable parameters. RO water remineralized with a Sulawesi-specific mineral mix is the most reliable approach. They need a mature tank with plenty of biofilm, fine sand substrate, and porous rock or lava rock for grazing and hiding. Do not house with Caridina or Neocaridina due to incompatible water chemistry.
Tankmates & Behavior: Best kept as a species-only tank or with other Sulawesi shrimp and Sulawesi-native snails such as rabbit snails. Peaceful and slow moving, so avoid fish, which are faster and will out-compete them for food.
Parameters: Temperature: 78-86°F | pH: 7.8-8.5 | GH: 4-6 | KH: 4-6 | TDS: 180-250 | Difficulty: Intermediate to Advanced
