Amano Snow White Shrimp
Last import date: 4/30/26
The Snow White Amano (Caridina cf. babaulti) is a beautiful color variant prized for its ghostly translucent white body that stands out dramatically in planted tanks. While it shares the algae-eating reputation of the standard Amano, this variety is actually a Caridina cf. babaulti color form, not a true Caridina multidentata. Adults reach about 1 to 1.5 inches and bring constant activity to the tank as they pick through plants and hardscape.
Care Requirements: Hardy and adaptable. Tolerates a wide range of water parameters and does not require RO water. Does best in a mature, cycled tank with stable conditions. A planted setup with hiding spots reduces stress, especially during and after molts. Will graze on soft algae, biofilm, and leftover food. Like all shrimp, sensitive to copper and ammonia spikes.
Tankmates & Behavior: Peaceful community shrimp. Pairs well with nano fish, small tetras, rasboras, and other shrimp species. Avoid aggressive or large fish that will eat shrimp. Active during the day and easy to observe.
Parameters: Temperature: 65-78°F | pH: 6.5-7.8 | GH: 4-8 | KH: 2-6 | TDS: 150-250 | Difficulty: Beginner
Not exactly. Snow White Amanos are a color variant of Caridina cf. babaulti, while standard Amanos are Caridina multidentata. They look and behave similarly and are both excellent algae eaters, but they are different species.
