Pink Boxer Shrimp
Last import date: 4/30/26
The Pink Boxer Shrimp (Caridina sp. 'Pink Boxer') is one of the more distinctive Sulawesi shrimp in the hobby, named for its raised front claws that give it a boxer-like stance. The body shows a warm pink to coral hue that intensifies in mature specimens and against a dark substrate. Like all Sulawesi species, it comes from the highly alkaline, mineral-rich lakes of Sulawesi, Indonesia, and requires very specific water conditions that differ from common Caridina and Neocaridina.
Care Requirements: Specialty species for keepers with Sulawesi-specific setups. Requires warm, hard, alkaline water with stable parameters. RO water remineralized with a Sulawesi-specific mineral mix is the most reliable approach. They need a mature tank with biofilm, fine sand substrate, and plenty of porous rock or lava rock for grazing and hiding. Do not house with Caridina or Neocaridina due to incompatible water chemistry.
Tankmates & Behavior: Best kept as a species-only tank or with other Sulawesi shrimp. Peaceful with their own kind and shows interesting territorial posturing without real fighting. Avoid all fish, as Sulawesi shrimp are too small and slow to compete.
Parameters: Temperature: 78-86°F | pH: 7.8-8.5 | GH: 4-6 | KH: 4-6 | TDS: 180-250 | Difficulty: Advanced
No. Pink Boxer Shrimp require warm, alkaline, hard water that is incompatible with the cool, soft, slightly acidic conditions Caridina and most Neocaridina prefer. Keep Sulawesi species in dedicated setups.
