Hygrophila Triflora
Hygrophila Triflora is one of those plants that makes a planted tank feel alive. Native to Southeast Asia, it produces lush whorls of three narrow, bright green leaves arranged in tiers along each stem, creating a layered, almost architectural look that contrasts beautifully against broad-leaved foreground and midground plants. Under good conditions it grows with purpose — filling in fast and giving your background real presence.
Care Requirements Easy to moderate. Hygrophila Triflora is undemanding and adapts well to a range of setups, making it a solid choice for hobbyists moving beyond the basics. It grows well under moderate to high lighting and benefits from CO2 and regular fertilization, but won't punish you for a low-tech setup — it'll just grow a little slower. A classic stem plant in the best sense: forgiving, fast, and rewarding.
Placement & Planting Best suited as a background or midground plant depending on tank size. Plant stems 1-2 inches apart and allow them to grow toward the surface, then trim and replant the tops to create dense, bushy growth. The tiered leaf arrangement looks particularly striking when grown in groups of 5 or more stems.
Parameters Temperature: 72-82°F | pH: 6.0-7.5 | Lighting: Medium-High | CO2: Beneficial | Growth: Fast | Difficulty: Easy-Moderate
Hygrophila Triflora is a fast grower — expect several inches of new growth per week under good lighting with CO2. In lower-tech setups growth slows but remains steady. Regular trimming keeps it bushy and encourages dense side shoots.
