Rating is 5.0 out of five stars based on 2 reviews

The Amano Shrimp, scientifically known as Caridina multidentata, is a popular freshwater shrimp species in the aquarium hobby, renowned for its algae-eating capabilities. Commonly referred to as the Japonica Amano or Japanese Swamp Shrimp, it thrives in community tanks due to its peaceful nature.

    Physical Characteristics

Amano Shrimp typically reach an adult size of about 2 inches (5 cm) and exhibit a translucent body with various shades, including brown, tan, and sometimes bluish hues. They often have distinctive markings, such as a dorsal stripe and dark spots along their sides, which can vary in pattern and intensity.

Amano Shrimp are not only effective algae cleaners but also add a unique aesthetic to aquariums. Their compatibility with various fish species makes them a favored choice among aquarists, provided they are kept with non-aggressive tankmates.

    • Imported

Imported can get a bad rep. They are typically a lot cheaper than homebred but travel a long distance. Several of my imports come from Taiwan to California to Nebraska. As you can imagine this stresses out shrimp and casualities are common.

Neocaridina imports typical come from outdoor farms. Variables aren't as easily controled. Water parameters can be pretty extreme to what we as hobbyist keep. I've measured parameters to be 18 GH, 12 KH and close to 400 TDS from the water they are received in. My water parameters for Neos comes from Omaha tap water and is typically 8GH 8KH TDS 250.

What makes Aqua Atomic Imports different?

I quaratine for a minimum of 2 weeks. I find most of the shrimp casualities happen in the first 10 days. However I still offer the shrimp at a much cheaper cost than homebred.

      Homebred

Homebred are typically 2+ generations removed from any shrimp import. Hobbyist have to be vigilant in culling to maintain high grade colors. Imports typically are high grade and no culling is needed.

    Amano Shrimp were perfect

These arrived healthy and thriving. They were huge! The shrimp got lost in the mail, due to the post office, but they arrived two weeks later looking as fresh as daisies!!! There was not one single leak, nothing wrong with anything. SO pleased with this order.
