Boesemani Rainbow

The Boesemani Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia boesemani) is one of the most iconic rainbowfish in the hobby, endemic to a small region of West Papua. Adult males develop the unmistakable two-tone body: a deep blue front half transitioning sharply to a bright orange-yellow rear. Females show a softer, more uniform silver-yellow.
Behavior
Boesemanis are peaceful, active schoolers that do best in groups of 6 or more, ideally with several males to drive natural display behavior. They are constant mid-water swimmers and add a lot of movement to a community tank.
Tank Setup
A 55 gallon long tank is the practical minimum. Open horizontal swimming space, a planted background, and slightly alkaline water (pH 7.5 to 8.0) suit them well.
Diet
Omnivorous. A varied diet of quality flake, micro pellets, color-enhancing pellets, frozen daphnia, brine shrimp, and the occasional bloodworm keeps color and condition strong.
